Only Definition of Sin

 The Great Controversy, p. 492.2 (Ellen Gould White)

… . Our only definition of sin is that given in the word of God; it is “the transgression of the law;”

----

two school of thoughts:

1. sin includes inherited condition. problematic quotes / questions:

a. Ezekiel 18:20 – "The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him."

b. Deuteronomy 24:16 – "The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin."

c. "As the little infants come forth immortal from their dusty beds, they immediately wing their way to their mothers' arms. They meet again nevermore to part. But many of the little ones have no mother there. We listen in vain for the rapturous song of triumph from the mother. The angels receive the motherless infants and conduct them to the tree of life." {2SM 260.1}

d. "Our only definition of sin is that given in the word of God; it is "the transgression of the law."" {4SP 316.2}

e. then Jesus inherited Mary's sin. it breaks everything. "he was w/o sin" (2 Corinthians 5:21)

solution? ignore?

2. sin is choice. problematic quotes:

a. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. Psalm 51:5

solution? understand Psalm 51:5 as figure of speech (hyperbole, Metonymy, Poetic Parallelism (often used in Hebrew))?

b. "sin reign" rom 6:12, "sin dwelling in me" rom 7:17

possible solution: personification

c. "all have sinned" rom 3:23

possible solution: "all" doesn't include Jesus, and the infants who died who egw says will be saved in  {2SM 260.1}. like "all flesh was destroyed" in gen 6:17; 7:21 but doesn't include noah and immediate family.
