Question 1: Does means invested in insurance go to enemy ranks instead of gospel work? (not addressed by BRI aritcle.).
Tip 1: maybe, specially if the insurer is not adventist, or the insurer reinsures itself or the policies (back insuring) to non-sda institutions.

Question 2: (BRI article assumes financial workings of life insurance companies are better today). Does EGW's comment still matter now?

Comment: this thought is like that of the cooking-on-Sabbath thought wherein bible and sop are negative but many commentators try to make excuses. however the church has included "preparation of food" (other word for cooking) in the guidelies. http://adventist.org/beliefs/other-documents/other-doc6.html

Conclusion: EGW comment on Life Insurance still holds true as BRI did not insure that all the concerns are taken care of.

update 2016-07-13: The Seventh-day Adventist Church solves this problem for their denominational employees thru "captive insurance" idea by establishing Adventist Risk Management Inc.  This means that the money does not go out to the world but is kept in the church. The idea is "self-insurance".
