Salvific Information Systems

This paper explores Biblical instructions, examples, and analogies on how an information system becomes a tool for salvation.

1. Propagate God's Word

  • And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. (Deuteronomy 6:9)
  • Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons' sons (Deuteronomy 4:9)
  • And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. (Deu 11:19)
  • And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, 21that your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land of which the Lord swore to your fathers to give them, like the days of the heavens above the earth. (Deu 11:20)
  • We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done. (Psalm 78:4)
  • Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children. (Deu 4:10)
  • And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. (Deu 6:8)
  • And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates. (Deu 6:9)
  • Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. (2 Timothy 4:2)
  • Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. (1 Corinthians 14:39)
How much and how often does the Bible say we should propagate God's Word?

2. Observe Sabbath
  • If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words (Isaiah 58:13)
  • But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates (Eodus 20:10)
    • gate = login
    • stranger = users (including remote users in other time zone. thou should not worry about hackers / tech support.)
    • hackers usually strike on weekends / holidays. weekdays when the sysads are out.
  • And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and some of my servants set I at the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on the sabbath day. (Nehemiah 13:19)
    • strangers don't care about our Sabbath keeping. they just want to study or do business.
    • teachers should not bother students' sabbath in other time zones.
    • students should not bother teachers' sabbath in other time zones.
    • teachers, students, etc. should not bother the sabbath of support services in other time zones.
  • "those who employed others to perform them were as guilty as if they had done the work themselves" {DA 204.1}
How can this be implemented in an information system?

3. How to share God's Word?
  • Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will: 16The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds: 17But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel. What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice. (Philippians 1:15-17)
Is there only one way to preach? Are there many ways to integrate faith and learning?

4. Will you get persecuted?
  • Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. (2 Timothy 3:12)
  • Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. (Luke 23:34)
  • Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. (Matthew 5:12)

5. Can persecutors change?
  • For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. (1 Corinthians 15:9)
Didn't the super-persecutor Saul/Paul write almost half of the books of the new testament?

6. Bases for using audio

  • Whoever is of God hears the words of God (John 8:47)
  • blessed are they that hear the word of God (Luke 11:28)
  • my brethren are these which hear the word of God (Luke 8:21)
  • He who has ears to hear, let him hear (Mat 11:15)
  • do not despise inspired messages (1 Thes 5:20)
  • let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak (James 1:19)
  • As for that in the good soil, they are those who, hearing the word (Luke 8:15)
  • So faith comes from hearing (Rom 10:17)
  • My sheep hear my voice (John 10:27)

7. Why prioritize God's Word?
  • The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. (Psalm 19:7)
  • "the work of education and the work of redemption are one" {Education 30.2}
  • By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. (Psalm 33:6)
8. How about pirated software?
  • For I the LORD love judgment, I hate robbery for burnt offering; and I will direct their work in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them. (Isaiah 61:8)
9. Bases for using video
  • Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. (Proverbs 29:18)
  • And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. (Habakkuk 2:2)
10. Bases for using text
  • And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. (Habakkuk 2:2)
  • And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates. (Deu 6:9)
11. How fashionable/glamorous should it be?
  • Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; 4But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. (1 Peter 3:3-4)
  • And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (Romans 12:2)
  • he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. (Isaiah 53:2)
